Sunset on Steps Beach

Before we headed out to Steps Beach, Maw Maw, Paw Paw, Brad, and I all went and took a walk through this old cemetery.  It was really beautiful, and the graves dated back to the 1600's.

This headless gravestone made me feel a little creeped out!

We headed back to the house to meet up with Adam and Julie, and Maw Maw and Paw Paw got ready to go out to eat dinner at the Tavern again.  To give a little history, Adam is one of Brad's very best friends from Millsaps.  He moved away to Boston, and invited us to visit him here in September of last year.  That trip was the one that really inspired Maw Maw to travel here.  Anyway, that was a small tangent!  Getting back to our trip story, we met Julie, Adam's girlfriend, for the first time.  She is absolutely wonderful!  We had the best time hanging out and getting to know  her better.  Here are our beautiful pictures from the sunset.

It was quite windy, so just ignore mine and Julie's wild blowing hair!

Hopefully, this will be the first of many pics of the 4 of us!

God's perfection...

After the sunset, we went out to eat with A and J, and hit the hay for the next day!  We have already had a lot of fun, and the trip is not even halfway over!

Scooters and Sconset

Our first full day on the island, we thought it would be a good idea to tour the whole place. We started out by walking around town and down to the pier just to take a look around.  Then, we thought about renting bikes because that's what Brad and I did on our first trip, and we had a blast.  But, Paw Paw wasn't so sure about riding over 20 miles on a bike, so we opted for scooters instead.  I wanted to ride with Brad because I know my skills on a scooter would have been awful.  Maw Maw and Paw Paw wanted their own.  We rented the scooters for the full day, had a short lesson from the scooter guy, and off we went exploring.

Our scooter group

Paw Paw looked so cute on his scooter, but he told me not to take any pics of him with the helmet on.  He even asked the guy if he was required to wear the helmet, which he was told, "absolutely, it's the law."

Maw maw had a hard time figuring out the basket.  We had to call the scooter guy over to help us.

Brad always wonders where RJ gets her big head.  Well, here is the proof!  He had to have an XL helmet, and I fit in a small :)
Maw Maw and Paw Paw had a slow start on the scooters, but within just a few miles, they had the hang of it!

You will look at the next picture and think, why in the world did she take a picture of the back of an old truck, but if you look way up front, this is a picture of the line of traffic that Maw Maw and Paw Paw had backed up when they first started riding.  Neither one of them would pick up their feet at first, which makes for some slow moving :)

We took a very scenic road out to Brad's favorite part of the island called "Sconset."  The Sankaty Head Lighthouse is out on a point.  We saw some gorgeous houses and a seal.  We went to the beach as well.  There were a few people swimming, but this beach water didn't feel anything close to as warm as our gulf water!  I wasn't getting anywhere near it.

Checking out the seal.  Can you tell these two are related?  Haha!

Paw Paw said he thinks he could swim in this cold water, but he never tried it ;)

Brad getting a little sun.

We took the scooters to a few more places on the island before returning them.  We were actually able to hit every beach on the island except for maybe one while we had them, and that's a lot of territory to cover!

I was trying out my amateur camera skills in these 2 pics.

All that scooter riding will wear a boy out.  Brad needed a nap.  We headed back to our house to take a rest after this, and we also had to go back to catch up with Adam and Julie.
